Abraham Begeyn was a successful landscape and animal painter with an Italianate manner. Begeyn painted decorative city and southern harbour views for the Electors of Brandenburg, whose court painter in Berlin he became from 1688 onwards. – A comparable painting dated to 1659 is held by the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
