Provenance: private collection, Vienna.
Jan van de Vinne, who was a member of a family of artists, active in Haarlem, was a pupil of Jan van Huchtenburgh. Like him, he produced numerous battle scenes following the example of his master and the work of Dirk Maes. Many of his paintings are today attributed to the better known Huchtenburgh.
