porcelain, the lid and body with gilt drapery, decorated with narrow and wide gilt edging, the lid with the crown on a cushion, the imperial orb with cross, the facing side and reverse side decorated with the polychrome painted coat-of-arms, flanked by a lake landscape, chateau and elegant couples, 4 applied cartouches contain naval scenes and figures, panels containing delicate gilt painted leafy tendrils on a white ground, the lid join and body decorated with white sculpted bouquets of flowers and floral festoons on a pale lilac ground with gilt leafy tendrils, the rocaille handles heightened with gilt and with 4 volute feet with large and small shell, height: 15,5 cm, length 20,5 cm, minor restorations; Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords ca. 1890 with line, (Ru)
This so-called “kleine Drüselkästchen” is based on the crowned tureen for Maria Josefa of Austria, wife of August III. with the coat-of-arms of the Saxon Prince Electorate, height: 19 cm, length 24 cm, design by Johann Joachim Kändler 1738; cf.
