porcelain, the body with gilt edging, the rim with delicate én grisaille painted leafy tendrils on a purple ground, gilt arch with gilt beaded friezes, gilt painted leaf rosettes and foliage festoons on a cream coloured ground, the side of the well with gilt and purple trim on a caramel coloured ground, the well with oval reserve containing the delicate polychrome painted scene in the manner of antiquity, the bottom right signed Herr, outlined with burnished gilt painted borders on a matt gilt band, Ø 24,5 cm Vienna, Imperial Manufactory, underglaze blue Austrian shield, date 1804, Sorgenthal Era, turner no. 45 Johann Herter 1792–1816 (Ru)

Herr, Lorenz, Laurenz, b. Vienna 1787, history and portrait painter, entered the Viennese Academy as a 12-year old, won 3 Gundel prizes, from 1804 at the Manufactory, until 1810 painted in the manner of antiquity, from 1812 déjeuners etc., later portraits, specialised in painting ancient onyx cameos; in 1819 founded his own lithographic works, from 1833 again at the Manufactory;

Cornelia, (after 121 v. Chr.), Roman patrician, daughter of Scipio Africanus, wife of Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus, mother of Tiberius and Gajus Gracchus;
