Early Biedermeier canapé, - Works of Art

Ca. 1820. Made in mahogany-veneered softwood, set on casters, of trapezoid form, with canted sides, loose upholstery and restored linen base covers. Ca. 81 x 146(front) and 148.5 (back) x 87.5 cm. In restored condition. (DOC)

An almost identical canapé is illustrated in Josef Folnesics's book of plates "Innenräume und Hausrat der Empire - und Biedermeierzeit in Österreich - Ungarn". That example is upholstered in leather and was located in Schloss Perkata in Hungary in the collection of countess Therese Györy.
