Wood and paint. 15 x 59 cm. Festivals with a pantheon of masked characters have existed for centuries in Northern Mexico, and similarly in Guatemala and El Salvador. The masks often represent human faces or a variety of animals, but the simple stylization and extreme nose of this example make it rather unique.
