A Pair of Vehicle, designed and manufactured by Peter Weibel*,
various materials, multiple signatures, dimensions of each bicycle: height approx. 110 cm, width approx. 160 cm, depth approx. 50/60 cm. (MHA)
‘This exhibition confirms and relates to the emancipation of tools. The third information-based communication revolution has radically changed the character of objects. The tool as an extension of the human body has evolved into a symbol-processing machine. Processing symbols is no longer a human privilege but has recently become the domain of machines. Objects have thus become variables and autonomous agents, materialised sign chains processing signs independently. Intelligent products demonstrate that we are always handicapped without knowing it. Being handicapped as the avant-garde of design’ (Peter Weibel, in: Peter Weibel – Hypothetische Produkte – Vom Elend der Privilegien, Prodomo, Vienna, 29 April – 21 May 1994, exhibition catalogue, 16, Vienna 1994, p. 3).
