Julian Schnabel’s spectacular Polaroid self-portrait, which the world-renowned artist took in 2004 in Montauk at the most eastern point of Long Island, will be auctioned off. The American painter and movie director has been taking photographs with his rare and massive 20 x 24 Polaroid camera from the 70’s. He creates breathtaking, large-size, objectlike, unique pieces. Each picture is one of a kind, an event or, as Schnabel phrases it so pointedly: “Each Polaroid breaks the norm”. The picture is a precursor of his big exhibition in Vienna. From June 7, 2018 onwards, the OstLicht gallery presents, for the first time in Austria, the photograpic work of the versatile artist that provides a new perspective on the people and places of his everyday life, his art, and the artist himself.
