1965 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL

1965 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL - Classic Cars

Delivered to Germany, but in Austria since 1965!

With the consignor for 35 years! Matching numbers!

Mercedes-Benz presented its new SL at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. It was tasked with the daunting feat of replacing two of its predecessors, the ‘uberauto’ 300 SL and its slightly pigeon-chested 190 SL. In terms of the market segment, the company focused on the latter. The age of unique builds was over, but the modern body by Paul Bracq was given an engine that was more than enough for the “fin” and that - in its new bored injection version - transformed the 230 SL into a genuine, agile and powerful sports car. Naturally, this SL was also available with a coupé roof, whose concave shape gave the W113 series its nickname: the Pagoda.

This 230 SL spent only a few weeks in Berlin before its first Austrian owner, a furniture businessman in the second district of Vienna, picked it up personally in spring 1965 and brought it to Vienna, where it was registered on 9 April. The Pagoda switched hands after nine years and again after four years, before being bought by the consignor in 1983. He had the seats renewed in original leather, and the previous owner had already completed this job on the paint. The Mercedes remained his faithful companion for more than 35 years, and indeed still is. In keeping with this wonderful history, the original heart is still beating beneath the bonnet. Today, the Pagoda charmingly displays that it is everything other than an over-restored new car. Its refusal to deny its age is precisely what lends it such an irresistible character!
