East Persia (Iran), c. 182 (190) x 141 (145) cm, about 1900, extremely rare pictorial carpet featuring Rostam seated on a throne and two pockmarked brown divs, surrounded by several animal motifs, main border with “Zili Sultan” motif and inscription cartouches, the scene is probably an illustration of a folk tale or is taken from the “Shahnameh” (“Book of Kings”), wefts and multicoloured warp threads made of silk with c. 640,000 asymmetrical kts/sq m, large edges and woven finish, excellent condition.
