West-Persian pictorial carpet,
Iran, c. 190 x 135 cm, about 1910, with blue weft thread and extremely deep pile, this carpet cannot be easily ascribed to one specific region, a very similar item is assigned by Bidder to the Hamadan region, on the grounds of its mint condition this piece was probably never used as a floor rug, classic portrait of the dervish "Nur' Ali Shah”, fish and ducks symbolise esoteric knowledge, a line of poetry along the main border, the inscription the the star medallion reads "Nur' Ali Shah”.
