A preliminary series (prototype) armchair, Model No. 270 F, - Design

designed by Verner Panton *, manufactured by August Sommer, Plüderhausen, for Thonet Frankenberg, Germany, in 1955, bent and black lacquered laminated wood, height 71.5 cm, width 60 cm, depth 59.5 cm, height of seat 36 cm. (DR) This chair comes from the storage of the Sommer company in Plüderhausen, where the laminated chairs for Thonet were produced. The present model was used as a showpiece on trade fairs and distinctly differs from the series-produced chair: narrower armrests, different bolting, the three-dimensional wooden parts to the seat and backrest lacking, the front edge cut in the form of a semi-circle, different from later models.
