A “Co-op” folding chair (director’s chair), - Design

designed by Hannes Meyer, Switzerland, 1925/26, solid beech, original hand-woven fabric, height 92 cm, width 49 cm, depth 47 cm, height of seat 45 cm. (DR) Designed for the “Co-op Interior” (or “Co-op Room”) for Meyer’s project “The Mobile Living and Sleeping Cell for Modern Nomads” in 1926. The room was reduced to the most essential necessities and only furnished with a mattress, a small wall shelf, a gramophone, and a folding chair. In 1927 Meyer presented the “Co-op” interior on the occasion of a Bauhaus exhibition, where El Lissitzky was immensely fascinated by it. Lit.: S. F. Mehlau Wiebking - A. Rüegg - R.
