This painting is accompanied by a written certificate from Ellen Bernt (1991). She writes, “An immaculate and typical work by the Dutch landscape painter, Jan van Huchtenburgh...” Walther Bernt said of Huchtenburgh, “The mounted skirmishes, parades of troops, encampment scenes, ambushes and hunting scenes are all characterised by excellently drawn horses. In stylistic terms, he is particularly close to his more elegant master, A. F. van der Meulen...”
