George Forster
emigrated to the USA with his family in 1865. From 1870 onwards he exhibited his paintings in various public institutions there. He specialised in opulent still lifes with fruit, animals and plants, mostly in small format. The size of the work here allows us to conclude that this is one of Forster’s most important paintings. His work can be seen in various American museums.
