A pair of Rococo console tables,
attributed to the Hoppenhaupt brothers, 18th century, hardwood frames in curved shape, carved with rocaille ornament, painted white and gilded, frieze with lattice decor, mythical creatures carved in the round, marble tops, c. 80 x 72 x 40 cm, good re-worked condition.
Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt the Elder (1709–1755) and Johann Christian Hoppenhaupt the Younger (1719–1778) were responsible, along with Johann August Nahl and Johann Melchior Kambly, for the interior decoration of both the Potsdam summer residence “Sanssouci” and the Berlin castle “Monbijou”. They are regarded as the forerunners of the so-called Frederician Rococo.
