(Hall, Tyrol 1910-2001 Vienna) „Wie eine Landschaft, Berg mit grüner Wolke“, monogrammed, dated MW 63 and titled, signed and dated on the reverse of the stretcher, egg tempera on canvas, 85 x 85 cm, framed, (K)
Illustrated in: Max Weiler, with an introduction by Wilfried Skreiner and a catalogue raisonné of the pictures from 1932-1974 by Almut Krapf, Residenz Verlag, Salzburg 1975, page 278, no.503. Provenance: Private property, Vienna His “Wie eine Landschaft” pictures are analogies. They accord with the claim that they are pictures which have been painted in the manner of a landscape, not something that is actually a piece of the landscape in its own right – but, in their own way, they represent the landscape. If, by using these creative ploys, it is possible to experience the very essence of landscape, and indeed nature, and if it is truly possible to capture the essence of a landscape in paint, and to truly depict the essence of nature, then such pictures would have to be created in this manner. Weiler‘s „Wie eine Landschaft“ panels are an effort to capture the essence of landscape and nature, and „to present“ it in a very personal manner. Otto Breicha „Wie eine Landschaft“, on Weiler‘s picture-analogies of 1961-1967
