Jean Francois Raffaelli: The artist attended J. F. Gerome’s painting class where he came under the lasting influence of the Impressionists, above all Monet. Raffaelli quickly earned a reputation for his characteristic depictions of landscapes and the Parisian suburbs. He invented his own system of dabbed brushstrokes which lend his works a sense of the lively and flowing. The artist’s works can be seen today in museums in Beziers, Bordeaux, Boston, Brooklyn, Brussels, Geneva and Leipzig, and many others. (Thieme-Becker, Künstlerlexikon, Leipzig 1933, Vol. 27, p. 562.)
