Provenance: Belgian private collection.

The virtuoso depiction of the copper vessels here appear over and over again in the paintings of Ryckaerts (see the picture in the State Museum, Schwerin, and the interior sold at Sotheby’s, London, on 9 December 2003 as lot 350). On this subject of Ryckaert's, Walter Bernt writes, “The objects, too, were carefully delineated and often stood alone in a barn (vessels, farming equipment, vegetables and meat placed alongside a very insignificant human figure...”.
