Paul Wilhelm Keller-Reutlingen

(Reutlingen 1854–1920 Munich) Goose Girl on the Riverbank, signed P. W. Keller-Reutlingen, oil on canvas, 75 x 105 cm, framed, (Rei)

Paul Wilhelm Keller-Reutlingen: After his education at the Stuttgart and Munich Academies, the artist settled in Munich. In 1892 he was awarded the second Gold Medal at the exhibition in Munich’s Glaspalast and in 1893 he joined the Munich Secession. He exhibited at the Glaspalast from 1881 to 1901, at the Secession exhibitions from 1895 to 1914, and at the large Berlin art exhibition from 1894 to 1900. P. W. Keller-Reutlingen started by painting Italian landscape motifs and veduten but soon discovered the attractions of his native landscape, especially Dachau, where he painted repeatedly between 1880 and 1890. He also enjoyed painting motifs from the Swabian Mountains. He preferred the open form of painting with enhanced lighting effects. (Bruckmann’s Lexikon der Münchner Kunst, Münchner Maler im 19. Jahrhundert, Munich 1982, Vol.2, p.298)
