Fritz Bamberger


(Würzburg 1814–1873 Neuenhain) Seascape, monogrammed F. B., oil on canvas, 66 x 110 cm framed, (Rei)

Fritz Bamberger: The artist received his first education at the Berlin Academy under G. Schadow in 1828. However, he soon left the Academy and took lessons from the marine painter, Wilhelm Krause. He later became a pupil of the electoral court painter, Primavesi. In 1832 he came to Munich where he studied under the influence of Carl Rottmann. In 1836 he travelled the coasts of northern France and England for the first time and, at the beginning of the 1840’s, set off on a study trip to Spain. This was followed by further trips to Spain which were to have a great influence on his artistic work. Paintings by Fritz Bamberger can be found today in Munich’s Neue Pinakothek and the Schack-Galerie.
