Literature: Friedrich von Boetticher, Malerwerke des 19. Jahrhunderts, Vol. II,1, p.29, No. 17. Alfred Metzener: The artist studied at the Munich Academy, in Berlin from 1862-1864 and then to 1867 in Italy. After returning home he settled in Düsseldorf. His preferred subject matter was the landscapes of Upper Bavaria, Tyrol, Switzerland and, above all, Italy. (Compare: Boetticher, Vol. II,1, p.29)
