Certificate: written communication from Drs Fred Meijer, Rijksbureau voor kunsthistorische Documentatie (RKD), The Hague, 11 September 1998. Drs Fred Meijer writes,’... For the flowers, the painting can be compared with several signed works by Jan Brueghel II. Closest is a garland around a St. Hieronymous, (with Noortman, Maastricht, 1986; K. Ertz, Jan Brueghel der Jüngere, 1984, No. 312). Other closely related signed examples are a garland around a Holy Family with St. John (with Noortman, Maastricht, 1975, Ertz 1984, No. 308) and another around a Holy Family with St. John and St. Elisabeth, in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg, dated 1656 (Ertz 1984, no. 306). Several other related works were included by Ertz (no. 307, 309, 310, 311).
