Prof. Nicola Spinosa has acknowledged this painting as an autograph work by d’Elia (oral communication). D’Elia was a student of Solimena and known for several paintings he executed for churches in Naples and Rome that stylistically are closely related to Solimena’s art (see the literature mentioned in the Italian text). This unusual depiction is based on models supplied by Filippo Falciatore and Solimena.
