Ladik,
Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 198 x 122 cm, about 1800, this old prayer rug belongs to the Ladik group with three-gable mihrab niches, these carpets are also frequently referred to as “Tulip Ladik” on the grounds of their stylised tulips in the bottom panel; the patterned blue prayer field includes two water jugs, an admonishment to wash before prayer; very good colour condition with bright yellow and aubergine, the present carpet is in heavily worn condition with low pile due to age, with oxidised colours and several repairs, reduced at top, the lower border with kilim trim has been entirely rewoven, a fabric border with rings for mounting is attached to the upper section on the back.
