Uzbekistan, c. 240 x 150 cm, late 19th century, “bridal bed spreads” such as the present one used to be embroidered by girls and traditionally constituted part of a dowry; here on three-piece cotton fabric with patterned gable, side edging and an empty surface symbolising the bride’s virginity; good condition, mounted on cotton fabric, with Velcro strips for mounting in the upper section on the back, only slight imaginary stains.
