Volráb Marian (Příbram 1961)

Landscape - Unrest,
topaz glass, fused in a mould, cut and engraved, signed M. Volráb, 32 x 80 x 9 cm (Zí)

The work is from the author’s studio.
Exhibited: M. Volráb, Darkness in Glass - Light in Paintings, Zlínský zámek 2016

After studying at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Kamenický Šenov, he studied in prof. Libenský’s studio at the AAAD in Prague, where he graduated in 1988. Between 1990 and 2008, he was prof. Vladimír Kopecký’s professional assistant at the AAAD in Prague. Besides teaching, the author is also a freelance artist. He likes to work with the technique of engraving, which he tries to use in raw way, without superficial decorative aims. His works generally have a simple geometric shape; everything essential is on the surface. Thanks to cutting and other techniques, the author makes clefts, openings, notches and thus creates structures that are remotely inspired by landscape. As he claims: “... I create a fascinating panorama of an archetypal-looking landscape.”
The Landscape – Unrest on offer is a gallery example of his approach to glass.
