Assen Ludwig Alexander, Count von Hartenau

Assen Hartenau (* 16 January 1890 in Graz; † 15 March 1965 in Vienna), born Assen Ludwig Alexander, Count von Hartenau, was a Ministerial Councillor and Head of Section in the Austrian Ministry of Finance, where he was responsible for public debt.
Hartenau studied law at the University of Graz, where he received his doctorate, and entered the diplomatic service. In 1919 he became deputy head of the joint Ministry of Finance. From 1922 to 1928, he was Austria’s technical representative to the Paris Reparation Commission. In 1931 he was appointed Court Councillor, and from 1932 he was Director of the Department of Public Debt at the Ministry of Finance. He married Bertha Hussa-Lamos (1892-1971) in 1934, and adopted her son Wilhelm (1915-1991).
Hartenau is buried at the Döbling Cemetery.
