Tibout Regters
(Dordrecht 1710–1768 Amsterdam)
The fishmonger,
signed and dated lower left: T. Regters P. 1755,
oil on panel, 43 x 35.3 cm, unframed
The present composition is a fine example of the paintings by the so called Leidse Fijnschilders. Tibout Regters, although not considered a fine painter from Leiden, here shows all the minute detailed painting style that made Gerrit Dou (Leiden 1613–1675) and Frans van Mieris I (Leiden 1635–1681) celebrated artists in Europe a century earlier.
