Nürnberg 1721, foreman in a white coat with gilt braid and buttons, white hose and stockings, leather apron, green hat, and wig, in the right hand a pickaxe, the left resting on the hip, the reverse side with rapier height: 21,5 cm, 1 miner playing the triangle and singing, 1 miner with transverse flute, 1 miner playing the lute and singing, 1 miner with pick in the right hand, in the left hand a ladle with molten gold, all in white jackets with gilt buttons, hoses and stockings with leather covers height: 20, 20, 21, 20,5 cm, 1 miner climbing, with a pick in the left hand and a knife in the right hand, in a black jacket with gilt buttons, white hose and stockings with leather apron, the hats with gilt emblem and yellow rosettes, height: 20,5 cm, porcelain, polychromed and gilt, the socles encrusted with blossoms- and leaves, minor restorations
Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords on the reverse side of the socle ca. 1755, model by Johann Joachim Kändler and Peter Reinicke ca. 1750 (Ru)

Jh., ill. p 20, 24, 41; Johann Joachim Kändler created these miner figures as idealised personifications after copperplate engravings by Christoph Weigel. At the court of August III. such miner figures decorated the banquet table during public feasts and, during the 18th cent., were exclusively produced on order by the Saxon court.
