Tekke, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

West Turkestan, c. 31 x 36 cm, late 19th century, the original use and mystical meaning of this pentagonal gem has yet to be fully explained, according to Loges it would be draped over the nomadic yurt and probably marked the summer tent. In fine knotting and aubergine-coloured wool, the central field features two chuval guls with kochanak coronation and four cut chemche motifs, the woven finishes along the gable and at the lower end are folded backwards.
