Formally he was committed to the tradition of Danish furniture design of the 1940s, inspired by such contemporaries as Finn Juhl and Peder Moos, to whose output his own production was equal in terms of quality. It is mentioned in literature that Kjaerholm received a silver or bronze medal for this piece of furniture.
