Yomut Ak Yap Fragment,
West Turkestan, c. 935 x 32 cm, early 19th century, this luxurious tent strap in mixed technique has been trimmed in the upper section and is manufactured with a brocaded kilim trim and an indecipherable inscription, it is preserved with very good colours and several areas with minor moth damage, one section contains a wedding caravan with riders, four-legged figures and a caravan leader escorting the bride hidden her bridal litter to the groom, another section features the contours of two figures with a dog and a horse on a leash; this band, which the bride would bring as a dowry, shows the importance of social status at Turkmen weddings, and years of work must have been necessary for the production of a specimen of such quality.
