Chaudor Chuval, - Carpets

West Turkestan, c. 77 x 108 cm, first third 19th century, the Chaudors used the typical tribal ertmen gul for both their central carpets and their bags, the present item is characterised by chocolate brown ground, with five visible, horizontally alternating gul rows, which in turn contain bird’s head motifs and tree symbols, the border with flowering shrubs is flanked on on both sides by narrow swastika borders, rare elem with tree shapes surmounted by kotchanak patterns interspersed with anchor motifs, the large format of this piece provides a further indication of its age; partially low pile, endweaves no longer preserved, both side edges with replaced selvedges around a narrow border reduced.
