Paul Klee
on heavy wove paper, image size 25.3 x 15.7 cm, sheet size 31.8 x 23.6 cm, one of approximately 30 numbered prints,
printed by Max Giradet, Berlin, framed
Literature:
Paul-Klee-Stiftung (Ed.), Catalogue raisonné Paul Klee Vol. 1 1883–1912,
Bern 1998, p. 204f, no. 228
Eberhard W. Kornfeld, Verzeichnis des graphischen Werkes von Paul Klee, Bern 2005, p. 60f, no. 16.
Paul Klee executed this zinc etching in January 1905, indicating it at the lower centre of the plate with the lettering P.K Januar 1905 Inv. 2. Since the drawing was often not completely inked during printing from November 1905 onwards, especially along the edges, the etched inscription is not always clearly decipherable.
The Hero with the Wing/ Endowed by nature with one wing/ he got the idea that he was/ predestined to fly, and this/ was his downfall.”
