A “Frammentato” vase, the design attributed to by Dino Martens
for Pauly (Aurelio Toso), Murano c. 1955, the freely moulded clear glass body decorated with applied glass plates in various sizes, paper label: PAULY & C./Martens/36598, height 38 cm. (DRAX)
A unique piece.
With a confirmation from Marc Heiremans “that the genuine Pauly label testifies to the fact the object was sold through the showrooms of this reputed retailer in Venice.” (22 May 2019)
The form of this vase is a synthesis of Dino Martens’s “Oriente Olaf” and his “Sirventese”. The pattern shows elements adopted from the “Eldorado” and “Frammentato” glasses. Dino Martens was first and foremost a painter, but for financial reasons developed elaborate artistic designs for clear glass objects for several glass manufactories that were eventually produced by master gaffers in Murano.
