Giacomo Antonio Arconati (circa 1550-1593) was Lord of the Pieve of Dairago, ‘Prefetto delle strade’ and a member of the Sessanta Decurioni of Milan; he married Anna Visconti, the cousin of Carlo Borromeo. Their son Galeazzo Maria Arconati (circa 1580-1649) commissioned the Villa Arconati at Bollate, generally known as ‘il Castellazzo’. Here, the celebrated family collections of sculpture and prestigious books were displayed, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Atlantic Codex (acquired in 1622).
