The composition of Venus and Cupid is based on Hans von Aachen’s Jupiter, Antiope and Cupid at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. A drawn copy of the present painting by Joachim Wtewael (1566–1638) is in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
