A superb French transitional-style chest of drawers,
indistinctly stamped J. BIRCKLE and with corporation mark JME, hardwood frame veneered with mahogany, rosewood and additional partly dyed precious woods, mid-section with stepped front, rounded lesenes, 2 drawers in so-called ‘sans traverse’ execution, the centre with marquetry depiction of musical instruments as an allegory of music, festoon marquetry on the sides, moulded marble top, c. 87 x 132 x 61 cm, ornamented with fire-gilt bronze mounts, well-kept condition.
