- engraved RAINGO FRERES on the base, late 19th century, brown patinated bronze cast featuring 2 young women dancing and a goat-legged Bacchus, height c. 78 cm, well-kept condition. (DOC)
The RAINGO brothers attracted attention in the first half of the 19th century with their bronze works and later acquired their reputation through the production of bronze clocks; from 1860 onwards they expanded their repertoire with bronze objects and objets d’art. They subsequently supplied the French imperial house, in particular Empress Eugénie - part of the collection is now in the Louvre in Paris. They won prizes at various world exhibitions, including the gold medal at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris.
