A goblet with cover, “David and Goliath”,
clear glass, cover with facetted spherical knob, edge and base with cut foliate and flower border, conical cup with four sides, meadow socle and trees, centre featuring David and Goliath facing each other, reverse side features a large flower jardiniere with ligated monogram AS, held at the side by lions rampant, surmounted by foliate, band, scroll and studded strapwork as well as drapery, base of cup with cut concave discs, nodus and shaft with honeycomb and facette cuts, hollow shaft graduating into stand, height 34 cm, Saxony, Dresden, c. 1730 (Ru)
David, first King of Israel and Judah, c. 1000-970, and founder of the dynasty of the Kingdom of Judah. Goliath, biblical figure, warrior of the Philistines who was noted for his size. He was killed in duel by the young David with a slingshot.
