of rectangular form, the body with delicate polychrome painted depiction of the 3 Moirai, the incarnations of destiny in ancient Greek mythology; personification and mythological systematisation led to the idea of three sisters, daughters of Zeus and Themis: Clotho (the “spinner” of the thread of life), Lachesis (the “allotter” who measured the thread of life allotted to each person) and Atropos (the “inexorable”, the cutter of the thread of life); height 25.5 cm, width 19 cm, with frame height 44.5 cm, width 38 cm, KPM-Berlin, impressed sceptre mark c. 1880, painted after Paul Thumann, 1834-1908 (Ru)

The Roman equivalents of the 3 Greek Moirai were the Parcae: Nona, Decima and Morta.
