Woven Front of a Tunic,
Egypt (Northeast Africa), c. 117 x 58 cm, (incl. frame: c. 134 x 66,5 cm), c. 7th/8th century, complete part of a Coptic tunic, made of linen fabric, the cloak has a uni-red central field with blue sides divided by animal and floral ornamental stripes (so called “clavi”), the neck area features a coffered decor with Sasanian figures, birds of prey and jasper (mountain goats) motifs in filigree design, professionally mounted on fabric and wood frame and preserved behind plexiglass - a museum-quality collector’s piece.
