Karapinar,
Central Anatolia (Turkey), c. 167 x 118 cm, 19th century, with a large, central cross and arrow-like extensions, the present piece is reminiscent of museum-quality animal fur carpets, with so-called “lappet patterns” at both ends, which can be traced back to Neolithic niche repeats, in a rather rare small format, since this type was mostly manufactured in gallery format, very good overall condition with mostly original deep pile wool, aubergine heavily corroded, side edges partly repaired, remains of the kilim at the top.
