Austion sale Sotheby’s, London, 13th Dezember 2001, lot 24 (as Domenico Mondo); collection Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome.

The present drawing is a design for a fresco in grisaille with the monument of the Genoese Admiral Lamba Doria (1250-1351), which was executed by Fidele Fischetti as part of an extended fresco cycle in the Galleria of the Palazzo Doria d’Angri in Naples between 1783 and 1785. The frescoes were made during the reign of Giovan Carlo Doria (1576-1625), who was a successor of the famous and influential Genoese noble family Doria d’Angri, in whose memory the fresco decorations were commissioned. The attribution to Fedele Fischetti was confirmed by Prof. Nicola Spinosa on the basis of a high-resolution digital photograph.
