On the beach was part of one of the most highly-regarded art collections in Austria, which Jenö Eisenberger and his wife Vera started in the 1980s.
Perlmutter captures the impressions of light, air and water on canvas, suggesting a soft and tender atmosphere.
The tension in this painting is created by the high horizon, which displays a large area of the beach, the isolated beach chair in the centre, the strolling figure to the right and the sailing boat in the background.
