porcelain, each 6 pieces, the body with wide gilt edges, black lips with gold-painted vase motifs surrounded by gold sprigs of leaves with flowers, flanked by iron-red winged mythical creature with horn, after Anton Kothgasser, diameter 25 cm, 19.2 cm, 1 dinner plates with loop mark, Augarten, Vienna, handpainted, underglaze blue mark c. 2000, form 98 Habsburg, decoration 6744 COURAGE, painter no. 132, 162, 178, 329 (Ru) This painted décor, with its excellent combination of element and design, is an impressive example of the manufactory’s classicist epoch.

W. Mrazek, W. Neuwirth, Wiener Porzellan 1718-1864, MAK 1970, p. 41, Anton Kothgasser, Vienna 9.1.1769- 3.6.1851 Vienna, porcelain and glass painter. At the age of 12, from 27.11.1781 onwards, he studied figure drawing under Füger at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Until 1851 he was employed at the imperial manufactory in Vienna, becoming its best design painter (painter no. 96).
