Jacob van der Kerckhoven, a pupil of Jan Fijt in Antwerp, was in his later years active in Venice and Vicenza. He combined the artistic delicacies of Jan Fijt with the chiaroscuro of Neapolitan still life painters like Giovanni Battista Recco.
