in Louis XVI style, so-called ‘cartonnier’, produced by MAISON KRIEGER in Paris, c. 1900, hardwood frame on small conical fluted feet, with mahogany (‘acajou moucheté’) veneer, brass fillet decoration in panels, hinged (lockable) fluted lesenes with brass rods, the front with 16 (extensible and folding) gold-embossed drawers with Morocco leather, 2 external drawers, brass rail and white-grey veined marble top, c. 180 x 110 x 40 cm, very well-kept condition. High quality workmanship. The foundation of a furniture manufactory by the two brothers ANTOINE and NICHOLAS KRIEGER in 1826 was the beginning of a success story that would last more than a century began. The company was able to maintain its quality level despite repeated new acquisitions. This Paris-based company specialised in copies of works in the Louis XV and Louis XVI style and took part in various exhibitions until the Paris World’s Fair in 1900. Production ceased in 1955.
