Czar Alexander I (1777-1825) ruled the Kingdom of Poland (Congress Poland), which was created after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, as King of Poland from 1815 to 1825. The present chamberlain’s key displays this function of the Russian Czar as King of Poland with the applied Polish eagle. Chamberlain’s keys were intended only for members of the Polish nobility in their function as chamberlains at the Polish court and are extremely rare. To our knowledge, no other specimen is known in any public collections in Russia or Poland.
